bochka vs other providers: full text transcript

bochka is a persistent Linux VM with SSH access, fast disk-level fork, IPv6 or IPv4 per VM, a 60fps desktop, and Docker support inside, with affordable and transparent pricing. This page compares bochka against other devbox and sandbox providers across VM access, workflow shape, simplicity, cost, capabilities, and scale.

Optimized for building powerful & highly profitable agent platforms

Cost

bochka charges for VM-time. $20 buys 2M seconds (about 555 hours) of dedicated 4 vCPU / 8 GB, billed by the second, spread across one VM or many. bochka is positioned as the most affordable and simplest per-VM option versus E2B, Daytona, Modal, Namespace, Vercel Sandbox, Blaxel, Islo, exe.dev, Cursor SDK, Devin, Capy, and Railway.

How bochka compares, one-on-one

Limits

Access surfaces and pricing checked against public docs as of May 2026. bochka: self-serve plans from 100 to 2,000 active VMs per account (more by agreement), EU only, default TTL is 1 hour but overrideable.

bochka vs other providers

A persistent Linux VM with SSH access. Fast disk-level fork, IPv6 or IPv4 per VM, 60fps desktop, Docker support inside. Affordable and transparent pricing.

Optimized for building powerful & highly profitable agent platforms

Some examples:

Agent factory

Many agents in parallel, each on its own VM. Fork to branch. Cross-VM comms.

24/7 background services

IPv6 or IPv4 per VM, full TCP/UDP, Docker support inside, no session timeout.

Personal dev sandbox

SSH from anywhere, GUI when you need it. Survives reboots and reconnects.

Price

One hourly rate per machine size, billed per second while it runs, stopped is free. The same machine on every other provider, at their list prices.

“Active CPU only” providers price the CPU seconds your code happens to burn, plus memory the whole time, so the same job costs a different amount every run and cannot be priced ahead. They publish no distribution of what their users actually consume; the rates above are their list prices at full use, the only number they publish. bochka's number is the whole bill.

50 at once needs the $20/mo plan (100 at once, $20 of time included). The rest, $412, is time at $0.036/h bought as $20 packs or auto-refill.

A plan is not a fee: its price comes back as sandbox time at the rates above, plus the right to run that many at once. Unused time expires monthly; $20 packs never do. 25 free hours to start. Details in the docs.

Performance

Price per hour is half the story; the other half is how much work an hour does.

The bochka row is our standard machine (AMD Ryzen 9 9950X hosts, internally called "baremetal"), where sandboxes normally run. When standard capacity is temporarily exhausted, a sandbox falls back to an older Hetzner cloud VM at the same price; that fallback did 8.9 runs per second (113 s per 1,000, $1.13 per million). Medians over several machines per provider, 95% intervals within ±20%.

† Modal: default runtime, cpu=4 in Modal units (the guest sees 4 CPUs; billed as 4 Modal cores) + 8 GiB. Its beta VM runtime did 15.1 runs per second. Priced as Modal bills that machine.

Measured on 2026-09-29: Vercel Sandbox · 2026-08-24: bochka, Freestyle · 2026-07-23: Daytona, Modal, E2B. Rows from different runs are indicative, not a like-for-like race.
