Koyeb vs Claude Managed Agents

Koyeb rents you microVM sandboxes from any Docker image, with GPUs and many regions, and you build the agent on top. Claude Managed Agents is Anthropic's hosted agent: you send a task, and Claude works in a small container that Anthropic runs.

The companies and products

Koyeb

Koyeb is a serverless cloud for apps, inference and sandboxes, and in February 2026 it agreed to join Mistral AI.

A Koyeb sandbox is a Koyeb service: a microVM started from any Docker image and driven from Python or JavaScript SDKs that run commands, read files and expose a port. It can scale to zero when idle and wake on the next request, and it can run on CPU or GPU instance types. It is built for teams that run AI agents or untrusted code next to apps they already host on Koyeb.

Claude Managed Agents

Claude Managed Agents is Anthropic's ready-made agent harness: Claude runs as an autonomous agent in a cloud sandbox that Anthropic manages, and you talk to it through an events API.

This is an agent platform, not a sandbox you rent. You define an agent (model, prompt, tools, MCP servers, skills) and an environment, then start sessions, send messages as events and stream back what Claude does; the harness handles tool calls, prompt caching and compaction. Each session gets its own Ubuntu container, or runs its tools on a worker you host yourself. It is built for teams that want Claude doing long tasks without building their own agent loop or sandbox.

Which use cases each one fits

For each use case, Battleships prices every sandbox provider on the same workload and sorts them from the cheapest monthly bill up. “4th cheapest of 345” means 3 of the other 344 providers run that workload, with every feature it needs, for less. “With limits” means the provider runs it but misses something, so it is listed after every full match. Open a use case for its whole ranking and what each provider misses.

Performance

KoyebNot measured
Claude Managed AgentsNot measured
bochka26.69 runs/s

There is no comparable measurement for Koyeb or for Managed Agents: neither was part of the hpc-sandbox-benchmarks run, and Anthropic does not publish how many vCPUs a cloud sandbox gets. bochka did 26.69 runs per second on that Node.js build-and-test loop at 4 vCPU / 8 GB. Koyeb guarantees at least 0.25 dedicated vCPU per GB of memory and bursts above that, so its speed depends on how busy the host is.

Node.js build-and-test loop at 4 vCPU / 8 GB, higher is better. Measured with the open hpc-sandbox-benchmarks suite. Koyeb and Claude Managed Agents have no published run in this suite yet, so there is no like-for-like number to compare.

Pricing in five scenarios

Each bill is priced from the providers' public price lists by the open Battleships engine, with the cheapest plan that runs the scenario.

Koyeb: Koyeb bills each instance per second from the moment it starts, at a fixed price per instance type, and Deep Sleep costs nothing. Pro costs $29 a month with $10 of usage included and Scale $299 a month with $100 included; the rest of the fee is not credit.

Claude Managed Agents: Managed Agents bills model tokens at API list rates plus a flat session runtime fee, measured to the millisecond only while the session is running, including time spent waiting on the model. The tables show runtime only; tokens come on top and usually cost more.

Claude Managed Agents: Plans start at $20 a month, and the whole fee is usage credit. You pay per second while a sandbox runs, and a stopped sandbox costs nothing and keeps its disk.

Limits in those scenarios

Koyeb's priced shape is eco-xlarge, which has a 20 GiB disk with no published price for more, and eco instances guarantee only half of each vCPU, so at 1,000 short jobs at once its CPU throttles. A Managed Agents sandbox has up to 8 GB of memory and 10 GB of disk, an unpublished vCPU count and Docker only in limited availability, so no scenario counts as a clean fit for it. Anthropic publishes no concurrent-session cap, only 300 creates per minute and usage-tier spend limits that pause all API use when reached.

Which one should you use?

Use Koyeb when

you want to build your own agent on microVM sandboxes that need GPUs, sleep until a request comes in, or run in the US or Asia.

  • GPUs and big machines in the same platform. Useful when an agent or eval needs a GPU or a large CPU box: Koyeb runs up to H100 and H200.
  • Sleep when idle, wake on request, many regions. Good for sandboxes that sit idle between requests, or that must run in the US or Asia.
  • Any agent, any image. Teams that want to bring their own Docker image and agent code get a microVM and an exposed port to work with.

Use Claude Managed Agents when

you want Claude itself to do long text and code tasks with no harness to build, idle time that costs nothing, and the option to run tools on your own workers.

  • No agent loop to build. Teams that want Claude doing long tasks get the harness, caching, compaction, memory and webhooks ready to use.
  • Idle sessions wait for free. Agents that wait a long time between messages pay runtime only while working, and resume on the next message.
  • Host allowlists and your own workers. Teams with strict network rules can limit sandboxes to listed hosts, or run every tool call on their own infrastructure.

Where bochka fits

Koyeb gives you a microVM and leaves the agent to you, and Managed Agents gives you the agent but only a small container you cannot open. If your agents need a real machine that keeps its disk, ports you can click, a desktop, and a choice of agents you drive from outside, look at bochka.

A whole machine whose disk lasts

Koyeb loses local disk on redeploy unless you add a preview volume of 1 to 10 GB, and Managed Agents gives up to 10 GB that expires 30 days after creation. Neither documents /dev/kvm. bochka saves the full VM disk every minute.

Open what the agent builds

On Koyeb a dev server plus an API needs workarounds because one port is exposed at a time, and Managed Agents has no inbound ports at all. bochka gives each sandbox HTTPS on up to 50 ports, SSH and a 60fps desktop.

Any agent, keys kept outside

On Koyeb you build the harness and keep keys as environment variables the agent can read; Managed Agents runs only Claude in Anthropic's harness. bochka preinstalls Claude Code, Codex and five more, with a credentials proxy for any HTTPS API.

Use bochka when your agents need a real machine: Docker, emulators, a desktop and browser, ports you can open, a disk that lasts, and the choice of Claude Code, Codex or other agents. Compare it one to one: bochka vs Koyeb and bochka vs Claude Managed Agents.

Questions people ask

Is Koyeb cheaper than Claude Managed Agents?

For runtime alone, Koyeb costs less for 50 agents in parallel ($475 against $634 a month) and for sandboxes for your users ($329 against $360). Managed Agents runtime costs less for one agent on workdays and one that never stops, because it bills only while running, but its model tokens come on top.

Which is faster, Koyeb or Claude Managed Agents?

Neither has a comparable CPU measurement. Koyeb guarantees at least 0.25 dedicated vCPU per GB of memory, and Anthropic does not publish a sandbox's vCPU count. bochka did 26.69 runs per second on the same benchmark at 4 vCPU / 8 GB.

Can Koyeb and Claude Managed Agents run Docker?

A Koyeb sandbox starts from any Docker image, but nested virtualization is not documented. Managed Agents lists Docker as limited availability. bochka runs Docker inside a full VM with root, systemd and /dev/kvm.

Can I open a web app my agent built?

On Koyeb you can expose one HTTPS port at a time, plus an optional TCP proxy. Managed Agents has no inbound ports or SSH. bochka gives each sandbox HTTPS URLs on up to 50 ports, raw TCP and SSH.

Do Koyeb or Claude Managed Agents have GPUs?

Koyeb does, from an RTX 4000 SFF Ada up to H100 and H200, billed per second. Managed Agents sandboxes have no GPUs, and bochka is CPU only.

Where does my data live?

Koyeb runs in EU, US and Asia regions. Managed Agents stores data and runs code in the US workspace geo only. bochka runs in the EU only, in Germany, Finland and France.
