Replit vs Claude Managed Agents

Replit is an app builder: you describe an app, Replit Agent writes it, and Replit hosts it. Claude Managed Agents is Anthropic's hosted agent: your code sends Claude a task, and it works in a small container that Anthropic runs.

The companies and products

Replit

Replit is an AI app builder and hosting platform: you describe an app in chat, Replit Agent writes it, and Replit publishes it.

You work in a browser workspace where Replit Agent sets up the project, writes the code, tests it and fixes problems, with system packages managed by Nix. When the app is ready you publish it as an Autoscale, Static, Scheduled or Reserved VM deployment, with Postgres and object storage next to it. It is built for people and teams who want a working app, not for programs that need to create many machines by API, so this page compares the parts where the two overlap.

Claude Managed Agents

Claude Managed Agents is Anthropic's ready-made agent harness: Claude runs as an autonomous agent in a cloud sandbox that Anthropic manages, and you talk to it through an events API.

This is an agent platform, not a sandbox you rent. You define an agent (model, prompt, tools, MCP servers, skills) and an environment, then start sessions, send messages as events and stream back what Claude does; the harness handles tool calls, prompt caching and compaction. Each session gets its own Ubuntu container, or runs its tools on a worker you host yourself. It is built for teams that want Claude doing long tasks without building their own agent loop or sandbox.

Which use cases each one fits

For each use case, Battleships prices every sandbox provider on the same workload and sorts them from the cheapest monthly bill up. “181st cheapest of 367” means 180 of the other 366 providers run that workload, with every feature it needs, for less. “With limits” means the provider runs it but misses something, so it is listed after every full match. Open a use case for its whole ranking and what each provider misses.

Performance

ReplitNot measured
Claude Managed AgentsNot measured
bochka26.69 runs/s

There is no comparable measurement for either. Neither Replit nor Managed Agents was in the hpc-sandbox-benchmarks run, and Anthropic does not publish how many vCPUs a sandbox gets. bochka did 26.69 Node.js build-and-test runs per second at 4 vCPU / 8 GB.

Node.js build-and-test loop at 4 vCPU / 8 GB, higher is better. Measured with the open hpc-sandbox-benchmarks suite. Replit and Claude Managed Agents have no published run in this suite yet, so there is no like-for-like number to compare.

Each bill is priced from the providers' public price lists by the open Battleships engine, with the cheapest plan that runs the scenario.

Replit: Replit plans (Core $20, Pro from $100) become monthly credits for Agent work and hosting, then usage is pay-as-you-go. Agents are priced here as Reserved VMs, which bill a fixed monthly price per size whether busy or idle, and Agent usage is left out.

Claude Managed Agents: Managed Agents bills model tokens at API rates plus a flat runtime fee of $0.08 an hour, metered only while a session runs, including time waiting on the model. The tables show runtime only; tokens come on top and usually cost more.

Claude Managed Agents: Plans start at $20 a month, and the whole fee is usage credit spent per second while sandboxes run. A stopped sandbox costs nothing and keeps its disk; model tokens for the built-in agents are paid to your model provider.

Limits in those scenarios

Neither Replit nor Managed Agents counts as a clean fit in any scenario here. On Replit every always-on machine is a published Reserved VM app that bills all month, Docker is not documented, and how many can run at once is not published. A Managed Agents sandbox has up to 8 GB of memory and 10 GB of disk with no published vCPU count, Docker only in limited availability, and usage-tier spend caps that pause all API use when reached. On bochka, 1,000 short jobs at once are queued above 90 starts a minute and need more starts per day than the $2,000 plan allows.

Which one should you use?

Use Replit when

you want Replit Agent to build a web app from a description and host it for you, with a database, sleeping when idle, and regions outside the US.

  • An app built and hosted for you. Useful if you want a working web app from a description: Replit Agent builds, tests and publishes it, with Postgres and storage.
  • Hosting that costs nothing when idle. Useful for web apps with uneven traffic: Autoscale wakes on the first request and costs nothing while idle.
  • Regions on five continents. Useful if your users are far from the US: published apps can run in North America, Europe, Asia, South America or Australia.

Use Claude Managed Agents when

you want Claude itself to do long text and code tasks with no harness to build, idle time that costs nothing, and the option to run tools on your own workers.

  • No agent loop to build. Teams that want Claude doing long tasks get the harness, caching, compaction, memory and webhooks ready to use.
  • Idle sessions sleep for free. Agents that wait a long time between messages pay runtime only while working, and resume on the next message.
  • Host allowlists and your own workers. Teams with strict network rules can limit sandboxes to listed hosts, or run every tool call on their own servers.

Where bochka fits

Replit hands you a finished app and Managed Agents hands you a finished Claude agent, but neither gives your code a whole machine to start, keep and open. If your agents need Docker, a desktop, ports you can share and a disk that lasts, or you want Claude Code and Codex side by side, look at bochka.

A whole machine with Docker and KVM

Replit sets up environments from Nix packages and does not describe Docker or systemd, and a Managed Agents container has 8 GB of memory and Docker only in limited availability. A job running docker compose or an Android emulator stalls on both.

A disk that lasts, and forks

Managed Agents drops sandbox state 30 days after the sandbox is created, and a Replit Reserved VM keeps files only by billing all month. bochka saves the disk every minute, a stopped sandbox costs nothing, and you can fork one while it runs.

Open it and drive any agent from outside

A Managed Agents sandbox has no inbound ports and runs only Claude, and Replit's MCP server drives only Replit Agent with no event stream. On bochka you share a port over HTTPS, watch a 60fps desktop, and steer Claude Code or Codex by API.

Use bochka when your agents need a real machine: Docker, emulators, a desktop and browser, ports you can open, a disk that lasts, and the choice of Claude Code, Codex or other agents. Compare it one to one: bochka vs Replit and bochka vs Claude Managed Agents.

Questions people ask

Is Replit cheaper than Claude Managed Agents?

For machine time, Managed Agents costs less in all five scenarios we priced, for example $13 against $122 for one agent on workdays and $634 against $1,330 for 50 agents. But Managed Agents tokens come on top, and Replit's figures leave out Agent usage. bochka comes to $20 and $317 for the same two scenarios.

Which is faster, Replit or Claude Managed Agents?

We cannot say: neither is in the public CPU benchmark we use, and Anthropic does not publish a sandbox's vCPU count. bochka scored 26.69 runs per second there at 4 vCPU / 8 GB.

Can Replit or Claude Managed Agents run Docker?

Replit's docs set up environments with Nix packages and do not describe running Docker. Managed Agents lists Docker as limited availability. Every bochka sandbox is a full VM with root, systemd, Docker and /dev/kvm.

Can I drive them from my own code?

Partly with Replit: its MCP server lets a client create an app, ask Replit Agent questions and publish. Managed Agents is built for it: you start sessions and stream events, but it runs only Claude. On bochka you prompt, steer and stream Claude Code, Codex and other agents inside each sandbox.

Where does my data run?

Replit hosts data mainly on Google Cloud in the US, with published apps on five continents on Core and up. Managed Agents stores data and runs code in the US workspace geo only. bochka runs only in the EU (Germany, Finland and France).

Is bochka SOC 2 compliant?

SOC 2 is in progress. We're open about where we stand: live status at status.bochka.xyz and our data retention policy at docs.bochka.xyz/data-retention.
